Sunday 13th September saw 6 “Team Phelan” entry’s in the annual Clacton Triathlon in aid of the Brain & Spine Foundation. The event, held at Holland Haven Country Park, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, comprised of a 1500m Sea swim, 40km Bike Ride and a 10km run along the promenade to Clacton Pier and back. Phelan was proud to have Steve Tucker, Andy Lowe, Paul Foster and Neil Pullum complete the full course with a further 2 Relay Teams with willing runners Harry Brundle & Nicola Williamson, Riders Sue Nicholls & Barry Ryan and “wet-suited wonders” Craig Bennett and Neil Jessop.
The perfect weather conditions resulted in some impressive times, especially on the Sea Swim with everyone within 3 minutes of each other and Neil Pullum and Craig making significant improvements on their 2014 times. A solid bike leg from Sue Nicholls and the quickest of all Phelan rides from Barry Ryan set up a close Relay finish with Nicola Williamson leading home last year’s Relay Champ Harry 4minutes back. Competitive times were achieved across the board with Steve Tucker & Andy Lowe coming in 84th & 85th overall. Paul Foster and Neil Pullum both came in under their target times and despite the photographic evidence really enjoyed the event!
