On the 27th March 2018, The National Federation of Builders hosted their annual construction awards event, the prestigious NFB Awards. The awards recognise the talent and fantastic achievements of professionals and companies in the Construction Industry, and Phelan was one such company.
Back in January, numerous Phelan staff submitted entries to the NFB on why they thought Phelan should be nominated for “Construction Employer of the Year 2018”, giving reasons and examples from the last year. To our delight, the kind words from Phelan staff resulted in Phelan being shortlisted as a finalist at the national awards!

Phelan delivers quality projects that all staff can take pride in. It is a great feeling to visit a completed project and say “I was involved in that!” 2018 will see further internal investment with a new bespoke project management app, the introduction of a Perfect Delivery Reward Scheme for the site teams, increased holiday allowance, and improved office facilities including an extension and new state of the art communal kitchen and dining area.
There is an endemic team effort to produce excellence without compromise, which stems right from the top. Phelan’s management team are passionate about the work and invest in people. The MD and management team have taken significant steps to ensure staff have the right environment, training, and support.

The evident ethos of striving to be the best, friendly atmosphere and genuine passion amongst colleagues has allowed employees to thrive. Several employees have experienced rapid personal and professional growth, with training, development, awards and promotion.
Encouraged by the support of our staff, the next step was to win the public online vote against stiff competition, Metnor Construction, Golden Houses, Walker Construction and Randall Orchard Construction. With a month of voting, it was difficult to know who would win!
But we are pleased to say we had needn’t have worried. Supported by our clients, suppliers, online followers and staff, their votes helped Phelan Construction go on to win Employer of the Year 2018! Phelan was presented with the award by Richard Beresford and award sponsor Andrew Percy from B&CE.
