Phelan Construction is proud to announce the successful completion of the major refurbishment of the Curzon Bloomsbury Cinema. The existing two-screen cinema located in the basement level of the iconic Brunswick Centre was given a major overhaul by Phelan Construction for the operator Curzon Cinemas.
The cinema is Curzon’s new home of world cinema and documentaries and offers filmgoers an alternative experience to the mainstream multiplex offering. The unique finishes within the building were designed to be in keeping with the design of the Grade II listed Brunswick Centre which was designed by renowned architect Patrick Hodgekinson. The project involved many complex and challenging aspects including installing a cast in situ staircase, erecting steel frames to form the auditoria within the basement and erecting a substantial acoustically sealed stud wall to divide up the auditoria. The project was completed on schedule and to the complete satisfaction of the client.
Rob Kenny from Curzon stated:
“This project was difficult and demanding to pull off with many unforeseen problems. To change from a 2-screen cinema to a 6-screen with three bars with lounge areas was a tough ask. Throughout the project, Phelan’s were professional, helpful and pro-active in helping us to achieve a wonderful finished building.”
